This chapter provides details on solving The Simpsons Bonus Level that becomes available with The Simpsons Level Pack, containing Homer Simpson, his car, and the Taunt-O-Vision.

The Mysterious Voyage of Homer

Marge is doing her best to keep some news from Homer; she doesn’t want him to know about the annual chili cook-off at Krustyland. But of course he finds out anyway. This level starts off with the heroes joining Homer on his front lawn. Break up the three boxes sitting in front of the garage door, and then change to Homer and use his Sonic Burp (press X) ability to break the glass on the lower two windows. Then use the leftover bouncing parts to build a ladder (Figure 32.1).

Image

FIGURE 32.1 You need a ladder to get to the roof.

Climb up the ladder (as any character) and destroy the mess on top of the garage. When more debris falls to the ground, jump down and use the bouncing parts to build a jack. Then jump up and pull down on the jack three times to open the garage. Move Homer to the flashing spot, and press B to receive directions to build Homer’s car.

After Homer’s car is built, proceed down the road to the green toxic waste spill and drive the car up onto the boost pad to blast through the spill to the other side of the road.

Tip: Plenty of Hidden Blue Studs to Be Found

Use Gandalf’s Magic on the garage door on the right to find some more blue studs. Have Batman use his Batarang on the target hanging on the garage door across the street to get blue studs, too.

At the end of the road, turn right and hit the phone booth with a blast of Homer’s Sonic Burp (X) ability to destroy it. Use the bouncing parts to place three blue handles on the large truck that blocks the road. Hop in Homer’s vehicle and drive to the truck. Press B when you’re near it to use the car’s Tow Bar ability to pull the truck. You now see a cracked panel that requires Homer’s Rage ability.

Homer has a rage bar: It’s the red circle that surrounds his picture in the upper-left corner of the screen. When it’s full, press B, and Homer grows to Super Size Homer and can punch (X) the truck and remove it from the road (Figure 32.2).

Image

FIGURE 32.2 Homer can use his rage bar to punch the large truck off the road.

The road is now clear, and Homer can head to Krustyland.

Note: The Rage Bar Doesn’t Last Forever

Homer’s rage bar fills up over time, and when it is full, it flashes. After using it, you see the rage bar start to deplete. When it reaches 0, Homer returns to normal size. At any time while Homer is super-sized, you can press and hold B to return to normal size and save any remaining rage energy.

Get in Homer’s car and stay on the road. When you reach the boost pad at the end of the road, drive onto it to get over the toxic waste spill.

Tip: A Hidden Arcade Game

Destroy the objects on the playground and use the bouncing parts to build a Midway Arcade stand. If you have the Midway Arcade minifig, you can place it here and play a game.

Near the entrance to Krustyland is a phone booth. Hit it and the two nearby bushes. Use the bouncing parts to add three blue handles to the large doors. Then use Homer’s vehicle and Tow Bar ability (B) to pry open the doors (Figure 32.3).

Image

FIGURE 32.3 Pull open the doors to enter Krustyland.

Inside the doors are three parked cars and a Game Save tool. Change to Homer, stand on the small flashing circle, and press B to get the instructions to build the Taunt-O-Vision.

You can destroy the silver car in the middle only by placing the Taunt-O-Vision near it and then removing the Taunt-O-Vision’s minifig from the game pad. This causes the Taunt-O-Vision to explode and destroy the silver car. Grab the blue studs and also press B to place the remaining three blue handles on the right wall. Again use Homer’s vehicle and its Tow Bar ability to pry open the next set of doors.

Inside is the Springfield chili cook-off. You need to locate three individuals—Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, and Chief Wiggum—and try out their chili. (You can see their faces in the top middle of the screen.) Find the large tree and destroy the objects near it. Use the bouncing parts to build a firetruck (Figure 32.4) to put out the fire at the booth behind it. Press Y to jump on the truck and use LJ and X to aim a stream of water at the fire.

Image

FIGURE 32.4 Put out the fire to reach Ned Flanders’s chili cook-off entry.

When the fire is out, change to Homer and move him to the small flashing circle in front of Firehouse Ned’s Five Alarm Chili to taste (B) Ned’s contest entry. Homer’s not too impressed.

Up next is Mr. Burns’s booth, but a bunch of fireworks have accidentally ignited. You need to find a way over the fireworks. Use Homer’s Sonic Burp (X) to destroy the water bottle near the fireworks, and then use the bouncing parts to build a boost pad. Get in Homer’s car and drive onto the boost pad to jump over the fireworks.

Stand on the flashing circle in front of Mr. Burns’s booth to try his chili (B). Homer actually likes it! But he still has one more chili to test. At the end of the event, find Chief Wiggum surrounded by rats. You have to distract the rats, so place the Taunt-O-Vision minifig back on a pad. Then pick up the Taunt-O-Vision and place it far from the rats. In this case, you don’t want to remove the minifig to create an explosion. Instead, the rats are attracted to the television show playing and allow Homer to move onto the flashing circle in front of Chief Wiggum. Press B to test the chief’s chili.

Homer’s not a fan of Chief Wiggums’s chili, but then it hits him, and he passes out, eventually waking up in a very strange place.

Move to the left to make the floating fish disappear and the water freeze. Move Homer onto the top of the large rock and use his Sonic Burp to shatter the ice. A large snake appears and runs away. Use the bouncing parts to build a boost pad that can launch Homer’s vehicle to the top of the ledge to the right (Figure 32.5).

Image

FIGURE 32.5 Homer’s car can reach the high ledge to the right.

On top of the stone ledge, use the bouncing parts to build a ladder for the heroes to climb up. As Homer’s strange dream continues, use his car to pull on the three blue handles and reveal a giant butterfly that drops some bouncing parts on the ground. Build a push handle and push on it until the sun falls from the sky. Use the bouncing parts to build a large bridge that falls and allows the heroes to move to the opposite side.

Tip: A Special TARDIS Platform

Before crossing the bridge, if you move to the far left, you find a large red double-decker bus. Destroy it and use the parts to build a very unusual platform. If you have the Doctor Who minifig and his TARDIS, you can place the TARDIS on this stand to visit another secret location.

Cross the bridge and destroy the two large glowing stones. Use the bouncing parts to begin building something (B). Change to Homer and use his rage bar to grow big and destroy the third stone object with the cracked walls (Figure 32.6). Use the parts to finish spelling out HELP on the ground. Then follow the very slow tortoise.

Image

FIGURE 32.6 Homer can use his rage bar to break through this wall.

The heroes (and Homer) discover a very large pyramid. Large objects keep getting tossed over the edges, and you have to avoid them as you climb to keep from losing hearts.

Climb up a few levels and push the large brown block on the right side of the pyramid down the track (Figure 32.7). This reveals an accelerator switch in a hidden area. Drive Homer’s car onto this switch to open up a staircase that lets the heroes move higher.

Image

FIGURE 32.7 Push this large block to reveal a hidden accelerator switch.

On the next level up is another brown block on the left that you must push away to reveal a glass wall that Homer can shatter with his Sonic Burp (X). Inside, drive Homer’s car onto another accelerator switch to open up another set of stairs.

On the next level up, to the far right are some silver LEGO objects (Figure 32.8) that Homer must break up using the Taunt-O-Vision. Place the Taunt-O-Vision near the silver objects, and then remove its minifig. Use the parts left over to repair the track and push away the final brown box. Use Homer’s Sonic Burp (X) to shatter the glass, and then drive his car onto the accelerator pad inside the hidden space to open up the stairs.

Image

FIGURE 32.8 Use the Taunt-O-Vision to destroy these objects and repair the track.

Climb the stairs and go to the right until you find a bundle of vines. Destroy it and use the bouncing parts to build a statue on the upper-right side of the pyramid. Move to the left side and destroy another bundle of vines. Use the bouncing parts to build a second statue on the left side of the pyramid. (The two statues are Itchy and Scratchy, two very popular cartoon characters that Homer and his family enjoy watching.)

When the second statue is completed, the pyramid starts to shake. Move Homer to the top of the pyramid and have a discussion with a very wise coyote (with the voice of Johnny Cash!). In the distance, a flying train approaches and collides with Homer...who wakes up on the docks with a lighthouse in the distance.

Jump in the back of the fishing boat and destroy the two boxes. Use the bouncing parts to repair the controls on the ship and use it (Y and LJ) to move a crate over to the docks with the crane (Figure 32.9). Destroy the two glowing life preserver poles. Use the bouncing parts to build a pole on the side of the roof. Change to Homer and use that pole to jump up to the roof (LJ and A). Up top, use Homer’s Sonic Burp (X) to shatter the glass and reveal a way down into the building.

Image

FIGURE 32.9 Use the crane to move this crate out of the water and onto the dock.

Jump down into the room and break open the doors. Destroy the other objects (but avoid the green toxic waste) and use the bouncing parts to build a crank handle. Press B and rotate LJ to turn the handle to have the toxic waste sucked away. Destroy the remaining shining objects and build a boost pad. Drive Homer’s car onto the pad to blast over to another stretch of wooden dock.

Follow the dock to its end until you find another boost pad. Jump onto it with Homer’s car to jump to the rocky base of the lighthouse. Climb the ladder and find the canisters of toxic waste behind the bars. Use the Taunt-O-Vision to destroy the bars, and then use the bouncing bars to repair the ladder. Climb the ladder and use Homer’s rage bar (hold B) to destroy the large cracked wall on the right side of the lighthouse (Figure 32.10). Enter the lighthouse and enjoy the reunion of Homer and Marge!
