This chapter provides details on exploring the DC Comics world and finding quests to complete, special objects to collect, and characters to visit and fight alongside. This world’s gateway is found on the lower-left level of Vorton (to the right of the Scooby-Doo gateway and to the left of the gateway for The LEGO Movie).

Areas to Explore

The destruction caused by Lord Vortech attempting to merge the various LEGO worlds appears to have merged parts of Gotham City with Metropolis. A lot of areas need repairs, so take a look around to see how you can help.

When you exit the gateway, to the far right is the Daily Planet. If you know anything about the Daily Planet, you probably know that it has a very large globe on the top of the building. That globe is now missing.

Look behind you, and you can see the futuristic shape of the LexCorp Building. Wayne Tower is almost directly ahead and to the left as you exit the gateway (it has glowing blue lights around its base), and the green toxic glow of Ace Chemicals is visible in the distance to the north. The dark streets of Gotham are not visible from the gateway, but you can find them west of Ace Chemical. Wayne Manor (Figure 19.1) sits between downtown Gotham and a nasty chemical spill at Ace Chemical, but you can probably find it easy enough due to the music and lights from the party that Bruce Wayne is throwing.

Beneath Wayne Manor lies The Bat Cave (Figure 19.2). The manor is locked, so you need to find another way in. Jump down and examine the area around the waterfall behind and below Wayne Manor and look for a large door that only Batman can open. Inside the cave is a Chroma puzzle that is definitely worth solving if you can locate all three pads!

To the far west (and difficult to see from the gateway exit) is a red building known as Arkham Asylum. It’s where Gotham puts its dangerous criminals, so be careful when you’re in there. Pay a visit and look for a large maze you can solve by using an Elemental keystone device (Figure 19.3). Be careful to avoid the spike traps and look for handles to pull to open doors and get into closed areas.

Tip: Don’t Ignore Vehicles

There are a lot of vehicles in this world. Destroy them to collect a lot of gold studs. Each destroyed car provides at least 3,000 studs.

Locations to Repair/Upgrade

Be on the lookout for nine areas that can be upgraded or repaired for a price. Following are the areas, which offer extras such as gold bricks or extra studs:

Image Restore the penguin hideout—The hideout can be accessed only with a character who has the ability to melt ice. The cost to restore the hideout is 20,000 studs.

Image Restore the Superman statue—The cost to repair the statue is 5,000 studs. There’s no gold brick reward, but the statue looks great.

Image Restore the arctic world—This upgrade makes available a locked area that has a gold brick inside. Wyldstyle can climb up and use her Relic Scanner to locate a cache of blue studs. The cost to restore this world is 90,000 studs.

Image Fund the Wayne Manor party—This upgrade costs 60,000 studs, but it unlocks a few gold bricks you can discover by wandering around the mansion. For example, you can find one in the puzzle by pushing blocks on the checkered track (Figure 19.4).

Image Restore the Bat Signal—For 90,000 studs, you can put the Bat Signal back in the sky. When the Bat Signal is fixed, Commissioner Gordon has a special quest for you, so look for him on top of a tall building in the center of Gotham.

Image Unlock the jukebox—One of the inmates at Arkham Asylum can give you access to the jukebox. For 25,000 studs, you can unlock the jukebox and select the background music that plays by pressing X.

Image Restore the Daily Planet—High up on the very top floor of the Daily Planet, you can pay 90,000 studs to repair the building. There’s no reward, but Clark Kent is sure to appreciate the repair and mention it to Superman.

Image Restore the Atlantis building—Deep under Gotham is the city of Atlantis. Find one of the divers and pay 90,000 studs to restore one of the larger buildings. With the right character, you might also gain entrance to the restored building and find a gold brick.

Image Fund the school of fish—For 5,000 studs, you can make one more upgrade in Atlantis and provide a much-needed education for underwater fish.

Available Quests

Four quests are offered in this world:

Image Follow Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen—Speak to Lois Lane as she investigates the damage Lord Vortech has done to Gotham City. Follow her on a tour of the city and fight off any enemies that attack. Protect Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, and you’re rewarded with a gold brick.

Tip: Quests Can Be Repeated

If you return to a world and assist with the same quest again, you’re rewarded with a purple stud—worth 10,000 points! You can find repeatable quests by looking for purple studs on the map.

Image Help clean up the streets with The Flash—The Flash needs help ridding Gotham of criminals (Figure 19.5). Try to keep up with him and fight off the bad guys to earn a gold brick.

Image Help Commissioner Gordon—Apparently, an armored truck was destroyed, and the riches have been scattered all over Gotham. Accept this mission, and you need to hunt down a gold brick, a bag of jewels, and some cash. Find these three items and get a gold brick. Flashing red circles on the radar map help you find them.

Image Help Perry White’s investigation—Perry sent three reporters to investigate rumors about the city of Atlantis in the ocean. Hunt down all three reporters to get a reward. Don’t look in the city but instead head underwater (Figure 19.6) and use the map to find the three flashing markers that help you locate the reporters.

Don’t Miss Out on These Areas

The DC Comics world has lots of hidden areas and secrets to discover. Following are just a few to get you started:

Image ACE Chemical—Take a tour of the damage done from toxic waste at ACE Chemical. You need a character who can help clean up toxic waste for this nasty locale.

Image LexCorp—This is the least-damaged building in Gotham City. With the right hero, you might be able to get inside and find a gold brick.

Image A Portal 2 Puzzle—High above the streets of Gotham is a puzzle you can solve, but it does require a Companion Cube. Maybe GLaDOS will loan you one.

Up Next...

After your visit to the dark streets of Gotham City, it’s time to lighten the mood with a visit to the LEGO Movie world! Everything is awesome in this world—bright, colorful, fun! Well, maybe not everything. There are still some bad guys to defeat, and plenty of repairs and upgrades are needed to get this world back to normal after Lord Vortech’s damage. You already own the Wyldstyle minifig, so this world’s gateway is open and ready for you to jump in!
