Areas to Explore

Welcome to Springfield (Figure 24.1)! If you watch the TV show The Simpsons, you’re going to find a lot of familiar locations to visit, as well as dozens of familiar faces from the show. But even if you’re not familiar with the television show, you’ll have fun exploring this very colorful and very odd town.

FIGURE 24.1 The city of Springfield has a lot of fun areas to explore.

Springfield Elementary sits beneath the large Springfield sign (that is currently damaged...see if you can repair it). There are some open windows around the building that you can jump in to take a look. One of the rooms has a chalkboard with a funny joke for Gandalf to explore.

The Springfield Power Plant (Figure 24.2) is where Homer Simpson works, but be careful walking around the area as it appears that there has been a massive toxic waste spill. The two large cooling towers also have a few secrets down inside, but you need a character who can fly into them.

FIGURE 24.2 Take a look inside the nuclear power plant towers.

Mr. Burns’s mansion is where the richest person in Springfield lives, and Krustyland is where the townsfolk go for fun rides. There are some very colorful houses around town, and you’ll want to take a drive through the neighborhood and see if you can spot Homer’s wife, Marge.

What else is there in this town? Well, Springfield Cemetery offers up a fun chase if you’ve got a character (such as Scooby) who has the Dig ability, and the KBBL Radio Tower and Buzz Cola Factory are definitely worth exploring if you like to collect studs.

Locations to Repair/Upgrade

Springfield didn’t suffer as much damage from Lord Vortech as other worlds, but there are still a number of areas that need repairs, as well as some locales that Mayor Quimby has decided need to be upgraded:

Image Renovate Springfield Elementary—For 60,000 studs, you can fix up the school and reveal the location of a gold brick on the second floor.

Image Restore the Jebediah Springfield statue—This upgrade costs 40,000 studs, but this is for the town’s founder!

Image Unlock the jukebox—If you’d like to be able to change the background music playing in this world, unlock the jukebox for 50,000 studs.

Image Restore the Kwik-E-Mart—Lord Vortech made sure this convenience store was destroyed during the Story Mode. Help Homer bring back the store by investing 35,000 studs (Figure 24.3).

FIGURE 24.3 The Kwik-E-Mart must be completely rebuilt.

Image Restore the Krustyland entrance—This fun park needs an eye-catching entrance. Spend 35,000 studs on it if you agree.

Image Renovate Mr. Burns’s garden—You’d think Mr. Burns could afford to pay for this himself, but if you feel like chipping in the exorbitant 100,000-stud fee, he is sure to say thank you. Well, maybe.

Image Restore the Springfield sign—High on the hill behind Springfield is the town sign, which you can help repair by chipping in 55,000 studs. There’s a gold brick tucked away inside the sign, and you can get it if you have the right character to unlock it.

Tip: No Height Limits in Krustyland

Many of the rides in Krustyland can actually be ridden. As you approach a ride, press Y to get on it. You can even press B to get a different camera view of your ride. Don’t forget to take a ride on the giant Krusty head vertical drop!

Available Quests

There are five quests for you in Springfield:

Image Help Find Mr. Burns’s hounds—Willy needs your help to find some lost dogs. Find all five, and Willy rewards you with a gold brick when you return to him. Look on the map for the glowing red dots for help finding the dogs.

Image Provide escort duty to Hans—Hans Moleman needs to deliver some food to the elementary school, but he keeps getting attacked. Escort him to his final destination (Figure 24.4), fight off attackers, and get a gold brick as a reward. Follow the blue arrow on the screen to tag along with him—but watch out...Hans is a terrible driver. You can run this quest over and over, and you get a purple stud each time you help Hans.

Image Protect Grampa Simpson—Help Grampa Simpson fight off hooligans. Defeat 25 enemies, and Grampa gives you a gold brick. It’s a bit of a mystery why these nuclear power plant employees are after Grampa, but if you manage to find the secret beneath the power plant, the mystery might be solved.

Image Help Mayor Quimby clean up the town—There’s a nasty toxic waste spill that the Mayor needs you to clean up. A gold brick is your reward, but this quest does require a character that has a Hazard Cleaner.

Image Find the Donuts—Hans Moleman has another job for you: Find the 30 lost donuts, and you get a gold brick. These donuts are scattered all over, and you need to follow the red dots on the mini map to find them all.

Don’t Miss

Springfield has many secret locations and hard-to-spot locales, so spend some time in the town exploring every nook and cranny. While there, be on the lookout for these special sites:

Image The secrets beneath Springfield—If you have a character who has the Dive ability, take a look underneath the city by diving into the water (Figure 24.5). You can find more than one surprise down there.

FIGURE 24.5 There’s more to explore in the water beneath Springfield.

Image The town treasury—If you have a character who can cut through gold walls, you might find where the mayor has been hiding all the town’s money. Destroy everything inside town hall and see how many gold studs you find!

Image Underground power plant—A secret entrance (that requires the Taunt-O-Vision) gets you beneath the power plant, where there are lots of secrets to uncover. Remember, you can pick up Homer’s Taunt-O-Vision and place it near silver objects. When you drop the Taunt-O-Vision, it will explode and destroy the silver objects.

Up Next...

The Simpsons world couldn’t be more different than the world described in the next chapter—the Lord of the Rings world. Here, you’ll discover a world of elves and orcs, wizards and warriors, and good versus evil. Gandalf is a great character to play in this world (it’s his home, of course), but you’ll find fun challenges for almost any visiting LEGO character you place on the Toy Pad.
