Implementing movement

Our final application will permit micro-navigation via physical movement. These movements are captured by the Rift's sensors and touch controllers to detect walking, grasping, and swinging. But at approximately 21 m2, our environment is much larger than a typical 3.9 m2 Rift setup space. This means that we need a different system to facilitate macro-navigations.

As noted in the previous section, the need for large-scale movement is a general source of unease in virtual environments. We need a solution which uses forward motion, has reduced or no acceleration, does not support head swivel, and provides a feeling of control for the player. One simple way to achieve these requirements is gaze-based teleportation.
