Writing is design and design is writing. Admittedly,
that is a rhythmic sound bite, and there are exceptions
to the rule. Yet increasingly, designers (and artists)
are using text in their design and artwork. Graphic
design has always been a mix of word and picture, but
currently, text type or text as image is employed as a
form of both personal and universal expression. This
sampler of simple and intricate uses of words, sayings,
and statements is indicative of how reading, writing,
and research are being redefined in an increasingly
media-saturated verbal and visual culture.
