October 9, 2017

Dear Marlene,

On July 31, 2017, your weapons permit expired as issued by the State of New Hampshire. This permit is required to be in full force at all times as a condition of employment as a security officer at our bank. On the expiration date, it was determined that you had completed the required state training and had in your possession all the required documents to obtain the permit. You stated to your supervisor, Dennis Stevens, that “it had been taken care of.” Unfortunately, this was not so.

On September 30, 2017, it was discovered that you had failed to send the documents to the State of New Hampshire to obtain renewal of your permit as required. You later told your supervisor that you did not have the necessary funds in late July to complete the filing requirements.

As a result, on October 3, 2017, you were placed on unpaid suspension effective October 6 for three days to obtain your permit. You were advised that failure to comply during the three-day period would result in further discipline up to and including termination.

As of October 8, 2017, you still had not obtained the required permit. You have therefore violated Security Department Manual Section 13-E, Weapons Permits, which provides that:

1. It is mandatory that each Security Officer have in his/her possession, while on duty, the following:

b. Current valid Weapons Permit (.38 Caliber) issued by the State of New Hampshire . . .

4. Failure to comply with any regulations concerning required permits will result in immediate suspension and can result in termination.

Accordingly, effective today, we must now terminate your employment due to your willful and continuing violation of company policy and state law.

Sincerely,

Larry Collins
Director of Security
