Dear Michele,

This letter is to inform you that, effective immediately, you are discharged from employment as the IT director at Lox Communications. Earlier this afternoon at approximately 2 P.M., I called you into a meeting with Alison DeMarco from Human Resources to discuss team performance issues as well as your willingness and ability to role-model appropriate behaviors for your staff. We informed you at the onset of the meeting that, depending on the outcome of our discussion, formal corrective action might result.

You immediately became defensive and began to raise your voice. Despite our efforts to calm you down and discuss the legitimate business concerns we had about your ongoing behavior and your group’s overall performance challenges, your conduct escalated out of control. You made derogatory comments about our company, its leaders, and HR’s role in mediating conflicts, and you then began to use profane language to demonstrate your disgust for the entire process.

Before we had a chance to express our concerns and engage in an appropriate dialog about specific challenges that we wanted to discuss with you, you stood up, walked to my door, and slammed it against the back wall with such force that the doorknob broke through the drywall. After seeing the force of your action, you stated in a disrespectful and condescending manner, “Whoops. It looks like you’ll either need to make softer doors or stronger walls,” and you stormed out of my office and left our facility.

As of 4:30, we have not heard back from you. We are consequently emailing this notice to your personal email address and shipping it via overnight certified mail to your address of record. The hard copy termination letter that you receive tomorrow will contain your final paycheck, paid through the close of business tomorrow, along with accrued but unused vacation as well as your COBRA rights and eligibility, unemployment insurance brochure, and other documents, as required. If you have any questions, please contact me directly.

Sincerely,

Rob Baudette
Vice President, IT
