The website is one of the most essential
tools of 2Fresh’s self-promotion—especially
while expanding to a new market like
London. It provides a better format to express
themselves and give in-depth information
while maintaining the user’s interest.

Showcase Showdown
MAKE YOUR PORTFOLIO REALLY SHINE
Creative professionals have one thing
in common—they strive to capture the
attention of their potential audience
through powerful visual messages.
They want to make an impact on
a viewer, to entice them to buy
their product, attend their theatrical
production, or simply marvel at the
architectural prowess of a building.
And for many, using digital elements
can inform, delight, and inspire their
audience like never before.
With each new day, technology
brings exciting opportunities for
growth and success. As businesses
grow, designers encounter tough
decisions regarding how to best use
the technology available for portfolio
development and self-promotion.

Housed in a beautifully etched
metallic case, this promotional portfolio is
where technology and traditional portfolio
strategies meet. The metallic case contains
a personalized metallic covered notebook,
promotional CD, and a Velcro-enhanced
folder, which includes a series of portfolio
postcards.

Interactivity at Its Best
TOSS A WIDE NET TO CAPTURE YOUR AUDIENCE
Creative individuals and firms are
quickly seeing the Internet as an es-
sential tool for handling the “meat and
potatoes” of day-to-day operations—
including generating new customers;
communicating with vendors and
suppliers; improving visibility among
prospective clients; and following
industry trends online.
A professional website helps potential
clients develop confidence and trust
in a business. Websites provide a
platform to spotlight your creativity
at its best, as well as testimonials,
case studies, and press coverage.
A Web-based portfolio can give a
potential client the confidence to pick
up the phone and call, or it can send
her clicking away. An effective online
marketing strategy can expose a
business to the world and reach new
customers that might otherwise not
even know it exists.
“It is important to design your
portfolio with some context,” says
Laura Hamlyn at Clean Design.
“Nothing is more frustrating than work
that is too small to read or under-
stand, cropped in a confusing way, or
delivered without context. It is helpful
to let people know how you were
challenged or what types of obstacles
your work was forced to overcome.
I also like to see work ‘in the wild.
Show your work in the context of
where it is used, when applicable.
That applies to packaging, environ-
mental design, etc. Even if you are not
an expert photographer, you can link
to the more casual or personal photos
of your work on Flickr.
Obviously, there is no face-to-face
connection online. You cannot
establish that personal chemistry that
is essential to winning new business,
so make sure your personality comes
through in the style and writing on
the site. Browsers should get a sense
π
Simple, yet clearly defined imagery and
straightforward project descriptions make TFI
Envision’s website one that is teeming with
cohesive design and functionality.

of who you are or the environment in
which your firm operates. People with
compatible personalities tend to work
better together.
Keep file sizes small or use pre-
loaders to ensure that your load times
are quick and people can focus more
on the work and less on how hard it
is to look at it. Average wait times are
just a few seconds, and then viewers
grow impatient and move on.
A website must not only look attrac-
tive and function well, it must be easy
to find. The best website in the world
that nobody can find is like a magic
trick in the dark. That’s where all of
the latest online marketing techniques
such as search engine optimization,
email marketing, RSS feeds, blogs,
and podcasts come into play.
And like paper-based portfolios,
Web-based portfolios contain all the
elements that show the world who
you are as a firm or individual. But
remember, electronic portfolios are
not for everyone. Be prepared to
supplement your electronic version
with a handheld paper version.
While some creative professionals rely
solely on their website to showcase
their portfolio, others try to engage
their audience with PDFs and other
interactive delivery methods.
π
This interactive PDF is an electronic
exposé showcasing recent Spark Studio
projects and success stories. The streamlined
navigation system allows viewers to explore
the interactive presentation via their own
computer.
