6 Barnyard Animals

One of my earliest paintings was done while I was in high school, at the request of my grandmother, who wanted a barnyard scene. The painting depicts two white ducks by a farm pond, with a cow and a red farm house in the background. I still enjoy sketching, painting and interacting with farm animals.

When I was growing up, my family raised a dozen chickens—eleven hens and a rooster. I was fascinated with the chickens and spent hours watching them. They all had names and distinct personalities, and were so tame that the hens would lay their eggs in my hand! I’ve gotten to know pigs on my husband’s family farm, and have had pet goats and rabbits, but I would still like to know other farm animals such as sheep, donkeys, llamas, ducks and geese. So many animals, so little time! But even if I can’t find the time to take care of all these animals, I can still enjoy doing paintings of them!
