Introduction to the Force.com Streaming API

The Force.com Streaming API delivers notifications to your program when records in the Force.com database are created or modified. This can be useful for user interfaces that have a real-time data requirement or to keep an external database in sync with Force.com. Streaming API is a scalable alternative to polling Force.com for changes or writing triggers with callouts.
