ABOUT THE AUTHORS

ROBERT S. KAPLAN is Baker Foundation Professor at Harvard Business School. He is the author or coauthor of sixteen Harvard Business Review articles, more than one hundred other papers, and twelve books, including four with David Norton. His research, teaching, consulting, and speaking focus on linking strategy to performance and cost management systems, primarily the Balanced Scorecard and Activity-Based Costing. He has received numerous honors, including the Outstanding Educator Award from the American Accounting Association (AAA), Lifetime Contributions Award from the Management Accounting Section of the AAA, and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK) Award for “Outstanding Contributions to the Accountancy Profession.” He can be reached at [email protected].


DAVID P. NORTON is President of Balanced Scorecard Collaborative /Palladium, a professional services firm that facilitates the worldwide use of the Balanced Scorecard approach to strategy execution. Previously he was the President of Renaissance Solutions, Inc., a consulting firm he cofounded in 1992, and of Nolan, Norton & Company, where he spent seventeen years as President. Dr. Norton is a management consultant, researcher, and speaker in the field of strategic performance management. With Robert Kaplan, he is the cocreator of the Balanced Scorecard concept, coauthor of seven Harvard Business Review articles, and coauthor of three books—The Balanced Scorecard: Translating Strategy into Action, The Strategy-Focused Organization: How Balanced Scorecard Companies Thrive in the New Business Environment, and Strategy Maps : Converting Intangible Assets into Tangible Outcomes.
