Exploring OpenStack Private Cloud

In the previous chapter, we discussed the AWS Cloud and saw how organizations can leverage various features provided by Amazon such as EC2, S3, and EBS for their business needs. Amazon bills its users based on the usage of the services and as the usage increases, the costs also rise significantly. Since organizational data has to reside in the public cloud, it is prone to attacks and susceptible to security violations. It is for this reason that some organizations prefer hosting an internal private cloud within their own private data center. In this chapter, we will explore the popular open source cloud platform called OpenStack.

The following topics are covered in this chapter:

  • OpenStack architecture
  • Installing OpenStack
  • OpenStack services - Nova, Neutron, Glance, Cinder, Keystone, Horizon, and Heat
  • Launching a new virtual machine
