Idea 62: Checklist – occasion, audience, location
The Occasion
Do you know the aim or objective of the presentation?
Are you clear what kind of occasion it is?
Is there sufficient time for the presentation?
Has time been allowed for discussion?
Do you know who will chair the session and introduce you?
Do they have biographical information about you?
Have you grasped the context of your presentation, what is happening before and after?
The Audience
Do you know how many people there will be?
Can you assess their motivation for being there?
Have you an accurate idea of their expectations?
Is the knowledge level of the audience in relation to your subject:
High?
Mixed?
Low?
Do you know any of them personally or professionally?
All in all, do you expect them to be:
Unusually friendly?
Indifferent?
Hostile?
Will they be able to use what they hear?
The Location
Have you a clear picture in your mind of the following:
Room size?
Seating arrangements?
Platform/lectern?
Acoustics?
Public address equipment?
Audio-visual equipment?
Technical assistance?
Room temperature?
Lighting controls?
Refreshments?
