Summary

In this chapter we learned that GPIO pins are digital pins which provide control to the user to turn it on/off and set input/output direction via software. When the pin direction is set to output, one can make it HIGH/LOW and the component attached to that pin gets that HIGH/LOW signal. GPIO pins provide plug-in functionality to add external digital components to BeagleBone. We found that BeagleBone provides many GPIO pins via P8 and P9 headers to which we can connect digital components like LEDs, buzzers, relays, and so on. Then we wrote and tested BoneScript programs to blink and dance external LEDs. Now, we will move to interaction with another electronic component – the push button. In the next chapter, we will be taking input from the push button and respond.
