Requirements

This system must meet the following requirements:

• No modifications can be made to the existing inventory processing programs or file formats on the mainframe.

• Any pre- or post-processing that needs to be done to massage the data being transferred with the mainframe may be done either locally (on the Internet application server) or on the mainframe itself.

• Although reasonable performance is always a concern, the batch nature of the processes doesn't demand custom-coded, high-performance solutions. Off-the-shelf tools should be used if they will expedite development.
