Publishing Content

With the globalization of large corporations and the need to offer ever greater quantities of information on the Internet, content publishing has never been a more difficult proposition.

Traditional methods of content publishing require either duplication of effort (for instance, maintaining the same content in both HTML and Word document format at the same time) or a sacrifice in quality and expressiveness by offering content using the lowest common denominator (for example, offering a PDF file for download).

One of the major benefits of moving to XML as a corporate data-storage format is the ease of distributing data in different formats. The “extensible” part of XML means that your document formats can grow indefinitely as new types of information are required.

The availability of XSLT means that a single master XML document can contain enough information to generate online, printed, and even audio versions of its content. A single master document can be transformed into anything from plain text to a printable PostScript version, with no loss of fidelity or information.
