The sheer variety of legacy systems and applications in use by large corporations makes it impossible to provide a single approach that will work in every case. But one of the common factors that can be found in every successful legacy integration project is simplicity. Using XML to transmit data between different, incompatible platforms removes many layers of application complexity for programmers on both sides.
