Terra Cotta or Ceramic Pot
The best place to start when working with succulents is with a terra cotta or ceramic pot arrangement. While the principles are basic, such an arrangement can be the perfect accent to your front porch, table, or mantle. The options and combinations are endless! You could use a large pot, small pot, colorful succulents, green succulents, tall plants, short plants, etc. The hardest part will be deciding what you want to use. However, you’ll likely find that designing with succulents is easier than you thought.
materials
• Succulents (1 thriller, 1 spiller, and 2 to 3 filler varieties)
• Pot
• Hot glue gun
• Wire mesh
• Soil
• Top dressing
Place a small piece of mesh over the opening in the bottom of the pot.
To prevent the mesh from moving, secure it using hot glue.
Fill the pot with a succulent soil mix. Mound the soil slightly in the center of the pot.
Begin by placing your “thriller” succulent at the top of the mound. Bury the roots, if any, in the soil.
Add the “spiller” succulents along the edges and use “filler” succulents to keep them in place.
Finish adding in the “filler” succulents.
You may find that as you add in the “filler” succulents, the plants will need to be re-arranged to fit together and look balanced.
Add a top dressing to finish off the arrangement.
