long table centerpiece

Succulents can last several days without being watered and still look fabulous. For this reason, they make a great table centerpiece for any event. There are a variety of ways you could create a centerpiece: a long box full of succulents, a grouping of potted succulents, or unpotted succulents on the table. This last option creates a very organic look that works well with any décor. The rocks and succulents you choose will greatly impact the style of your centerpiece.

Image Spread out a layer or two of plastic wrap where your table runner and centerpiece will be placed. Tape the ends under the table with masking tape to hold it in place.

Image Lay the burlap table runner across the table, covering the plastic wrap.

Image

Image If the plastic wrap is too wide, fold the edges under so they are covered by the burlap.

Image

Image Trim the ends of the table runner to the desired length. Cut each end to come to a point in the center.

Image

Image On the center of the runner, spread a handful or two of small decorative rocks.

Image

Image Place larger decorative rocks randomly among the smaller rocks.

Image

Image Add a small patch of sphagnum moss on top of the rocks near the center.

Image

Image Place a large succulent in the center of the moss and rocks.

Image

Image Add more rocks and moss around the succulent to make the arrangement wider in the center.

Image

Image Add a few smaller succulents around the large succulent to create a small grouping. This will tie in the large succulent with the smaller groupings.

Image

Image Group smaller succulents along the rocks in several places.

Image

Image If needed, use the larger rocks and moss to help succulents stand up.

Image

Image Cover any visible roots with clumps of moss.

Image

Image Place several strands of trailing succulents around the smaller succulents. Hide the ends under the other succulents.

Image

Image Create additional groupings of rocks, moss, and succulents along the table runner. The total number of groupings should be an odd number, such as 3 or 5.

Image

Image To maintain the arrangement for several days, spray the bottom of the arrangements with water every other day. The plastic wrap will prevent the water from damaging the table.
