Part II: The DISC Model

There are four important points to consider as we delve into the world of the DISC styles.

First, all styles are positive and contribute to the world in meaningful ways. In the fable, Dorian’s D style directness was as essential to the bird’s success as Sarah’s S style sensitivity. Indy’s I style communication skills were no more or less important than Clark’s C style drive for accuracy and precision. Each style possesses unique strengths and capabilities that should be celebrated. Simply put, there is no “best” style.

Second, there’s no need to change the core essence of who you are. That would be exchanging one set of potential strengths and challenges for another. Imagine Dorian trying to completely morph into an S style dove or Crystal seeking to become an I style parrot. Embracing the styles means fully recognizing and accepting your natural gifts.

Third, nobody is just one style. We are each a combination of all four. Unlike our bird friends who neatly fit into one style, people are far more complex, and this makes each of us unique.

And fourth, we each have the capacity to adapt to different situations through style flexibility. By tapping into the abilities of all four styles, we build healthier and happier relationships and achieve our highest potential.
