Summary

XML Search Extender creates a bridge between a relational database and a structured XML document. Each database must be enabled to add the new UDTs, functions, and procedures. XML documents can be stored as a single document using XML Columns. Elements of the document can be retrieved or updated using SQL statements. XML Collections are used for document composition and decomposition. They can be used to create XML documents from relational database columns and to break down XML documents and insert the elements into database tables.
