Configuring network settings

The UCSPE VM supports DHCP and static IP address assignment. The default IP setting is DHCP, which can be changed to static using CLI access to the server interface after the first boot. DHCP is easier to configure for obtaining an IP address automatically. For VMware Workstation Player and Workstation, if you need to access UCSPE and UCSM only from the local system where it is installed, select the network type for the UCSPE VM NICs as NAT (the default option), and an IP will automatically be assigned that is accessible locally. If you need to access the UCSPE VM from a different computer on the network, you need to change the UCSPE VM network setting in VMware Workstation Player to Bridged and have a DHCP server running on the local office/home network, or the IP could be assigned manually.

Use the following method to assign an IP manually through the console:

  1. Log in to the UCSPE VM console using username ucspe and password ucspe.
  2. On the Select prompt, enter n to select Modify Network Settings.
  3. For Modify Connections, enter y to change settings.
  4. For Custom Network Mode, enter c.
  5. Add the IP, subnet mask, and gateway in the following prompts.
  6. The interface will reinitialize with the new IP settings:

Changing the IP setting will stop and restart the UCSPE and UCSM services.

After initializing UCSPE, the management IP and the default username and password are shown on the VM console. This IP and username/password combination is used for accessing the VM:

  1. The Fabric Interconnect model and network uplinks from the blade server chassis to Fabric Interconnect is not managed under the Hardware Inventory tab. In order to change the Fabric Interconnect model and manage chassis uplinks, click on Settings in the work pane, as shown here:
  1. Select the Change Fabric Interconnect option:
  1. Select the desired model of Fabric Interconnect from the drop-down menu under Fabric Interconnect. Changing the Fabric Interconnect will reset the UCSPE VM:

No network connectivity from Fabric Interconnects to any northbound switch is possible.
