So far we have learnt about user interface, user administration and databases, and how application scopes work. Now we will learn how to create modules, and customize forms and views.
ServiceNow applications are data oriented, which is why the ServiceNow platform offers us various ways to present data to end users by creating various kind of modules, which are accessible through navigational links available under each application menu in the left navigation pane. It also offers tools to modify the layout of forms and add various types of form field elements to the form. It enables us to present data to end-users in an efficient and easily understandable manner. Forms have the capability to present the same records to end-users in a different manner based on their role or other policies. For example, an end-user is only interested in limited amount of form fields when reporting a new incident; however, the service-desk person must have access to more data (form fields) in order to properly work on the incident. The ServiceNow platform offers easy to use features that allow administrators to create modules, and customize form and views.
In this chapter, we will learn how to create different types of modules, customize the form layout, and quickly add new form fields to the table. We will also learn about various form field element types available in the platform, including the reference field, journal field, date field, and choice list. Furthermore, we will learn how we can use form views to present the same record in different ways to end-users based on their role.
