As mentioned earlier, Azure Web Apps is one of the Azure App Service. Azure Web Apps runs on top of virtual machines (VMs), where a lot of IIS clusters are deployed in Microsoft data centers. Therefore, when you want to deploy your own web app, you do not have to be responsible for deploying and managing the VMs—just build your app and deploy it on Azure Web Apps.

You can deploy web apps built using one of the following languages: .NET, .NET Core, PHP, Ruby, Python, Java, and Node.js. These apps can be hosted on Windows, Linux, or even in containers such as Docker, although this mode is still in preview at the time of writing.
