Using Webhooks

vRealize Operations also has support for Webhooks. These allow for an integration with any API-capable software product. In essence, Webhooks are HTTP callbacks. Compared to custom REST workflows, this will notify you right away that an alert was generated.

VMware vRealize Log Insight 3.3 and newer has support for Webhooks.

The problem with Webhooks is that the output per product is proprietary and the incoming format per product is also proprietary. These means that, by default, two different products cannot communicate with each other.

VMware offers an open source shim for both vRealize Operations and vRealize Log Insight to convert between proprietary formats. This shim covers common integrations with products such as Jenkins, vRealize Orchestrator, ServiceNow, and Bugzilla.

You can configure shims in vRealize Operations by navigating to the Administration tab and then to Outbound Settings, and configuring the Rest Notification Plugin. The following screenshot shows an example configuration:
