Adding monitoring objects

The Endpoint Operations Management Agent auto discovers some of the operating system objects to monitor.

You can add objects (such as files, scripts, and processes) for the endpoint agent to monitor.

Let's add a service to monitor as an example. Let's add a Windows service object in vRealize Operations that will monitor a DNS service running on the Windows Server.

Perform the following steps to add DNS as a monitored service in vRealize Operations:

  1. In vRealize Operations, navigate to the object (server) where the service is running:
  1. Click Actions | Monitor OS Object, and select Monitor Windows Service.
  1. Enter a display name for the monitored service, and for service_name enter DNS. Make sure to spell out the name correctly. On a Windows machine, you can list the services and find the name by running the Get-Services PowerShell cmdlet:

If you take a look at the All Metrics tab of the object again, you will notice that now, the object relationship shows the monitored service as well.
