What is new in vRealize Operations 6.6?

Although not much, there are few new things related to the Endpoint Operations Management Agent in vRealize Operations 6.6 that are worth mentioning.

Agent support for IPv6 environments for Microsoft Windows Server 2016 is now available, which is something that has been asked for by customers for a while.

Now, the agent also collects the following metrics for NFS-mounted filesystems:

  • Resource availability: Availability
  • Use percent (%): Utilization
  • Total bytes free (KB): Utilization

The vRealize Operations UI has also undergone a change related to the Endpoint Operations Management Agent.

The Plugins tab will show all the Endpoint Operations Management plugins which are installed. You can highlight a specific plugin and disable it from here. You can access the Plugins tab by navigating to Administration | Configuration | Endpoint Operations. When you disable a plugin, it is removed from all the agents on which it has existed, and the agent no longer collects the metrics and other data related to that plugin. The plugin is marked as disabled on the vRealize Operations server.

You cannot disable the default plugins that are installed during the vRealize Operations installation.

The Operating Systems plugin collects metrics for:

  • Operating system object types such as Linux, AIX, Solaris, and Windows
  • Windows services, script services, and multi process services

The Remote Service Monitoring plugin collects metrics for object types such HTTP check, TCP check, and ICMP check.

To monitor specific applications, you will have to install their respective solutions. For example, to monitor SQL databases and services, you have to install the .pak file for the Endpoint Operations Management solution. The  solution will subsequently install the SQL plugin on vRealize Operations nodes.
