Upgrading to Windows 10 is arguably the easiest upgrade we've seen in recent memory:
- Application compatibility: 99% of Windows 7 apps will still run on Windows 10 (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsforbusiness/simplified-updates).
- Device compatibility: Any device running Windows 7 or later can run Windows 10. There is no need to buy new hardware.
That being said, you'll still want to do your homework to make sure your specific devices and applications are ready for the upgrade.
If you have an Azure subscription, you can use Windows Analytics (a set of Azure solutions) to analyze Upgrade Readiness, Update Compliance, and Device Health. To get started with Windows Analytics, follow these instructions to find each part of the workspace and link it to a new Azure Log Analytics workspace:
- Go to the Azure portal at https://portal.azure.com and select Create a resource.
- Search for Upgrade Readiness, select it, and then choose Create.
- You'll be prompted to link to an existing (or create a new) Log Analytics workspace.
- Select Create.
You'll repeat those steps twice more, replacing Upgrade Readiness with Update Compliance and then Device Health. Link the last two solutions to the same workspace you created in step 3.
We'll look at evaluating security features and deploying them in the next section.
