the universe.
17.3 THE FLAT INTERACTION AND LARGE-SCALE
STRUCTURE
Very recent, as-yet unpublished research from Castorium University in Toronto, Canada has
suggested that there is a hitherto-unknown interaction between quarks and leptons. e Cana-
dian researchers call it the flat interaction, and it has an effect something like that of a strong
tailwind on a small, single-engine de Havilland. Apparently, it is a very busy force, according to
experiments conducted at the Pondwater Accelerator in Bancroft, Ontario. Lead scientist Pat
Incisor, announcing the discovery to the media remarked, “Dam! ats for sure a flat interac-
tion!”
e Canadians substituted this interaction for cold dark matter in their simulations, and
a very different large-scale structure is predicted for the universe. Unfortunately, these predic-
tions do not compare favorably with observations of clusters and superclusters of galaxies. e
simulated structures do, however, match quite well with the morphology of at least one familiar
example of Canadian fauna. See Figure 17.3.
