Upgrading, Downgrading, and Canceling a Premium Account

You can upgrade your account at any time by clicking the Upgrade My Account link in the LinkedIn footer when you’re logged in to your account. The Subscription Plans page, shown in Figure 16.1, opens. Here you can choose the type of premium business account you want or click the View Plans link in the Searching for Top Talent? box (visible in the lower left of the figure) or the Looking for a Job? box (visible in the lower right of the figure) to choose a premium Employer and Recruiter account or a premium Job Seeker account.

QUICK TIP
To access Corporate Recruiting Solutions, you must click the Recruiting Solutions link in the LinkedIn footer.

Your premium account is automatically renewed each month or year depending on your payment schedule. You can cancel your premium account at any time by contacting LinkedIn and requesting cancellation using the form at help.linkedin.com/app/ask/subject/Cancel%20My%20Premium%20Account.

Figure 16.1: Select the type of premium account you want from the available Subscription Plans.

Once approved, the cancellation is effective immediately and your account is downgraded to a free Basic account. That means all premium features, such as InMails that you got as part of your premium account, will immediately disappear from your account.

If you want to downgrade your premium account to a lower-level premium account rather than reverting to the free Basic account through a premium account cancellation, then you can contact LinkedIn using the form provided at help.linkedin.com/app/ask/subject/Downgrade%20My%20Premium%20Account. Be sure to identify the type of account you want to downgrade to in the Question text box of the contact form.

When your request is approved, your account is immediately downgraded to the one you requested and you lose access to all higher-level features provided in your previous account.

WARNING
LinkedIn recommends that you initiate your cancellation or premium account downgrade request at least 3–5 business days prior to your account renewal date in order to avoid the automated renewal charge.

You can always upgrade your account again in the future after you cancel or downgrade your premium account. Keep in mind, when you cancel or downgrade your premium account, LinkedIn does not refund any money for unused or partially used periods. For example, if you prepaid for a full year of a Talent Finder account and decide to cancel it and revert to a free Basic account three months later, you will not be refunded for the nine months you did not use. Therefore, be sure to choose your premium account type and payment terms wisely. You don’t want to be stuck paying for an account you don’t need or want.
