Talent is a pursued interest. In other words, anything that you’re willing to practice, you can do.

Chapter 1
Drawing on Maps

Have you ever watched a child draw? Most children love drawing and are proud of their results.

When they grow up, however, most people stop drawing. Often it’s because they try to draw photorealistic pictures, or they try to create something as appealing as the great artists’ masterpieces, and they fail. Or they think drawing needs a purpose to be valuable, like being useful for their job. What a pity.

We should search for opportunities to have fun again without judging the result. This chapter is one of those opportunities. We’ll build an app that draws on the map as we walk around in the real world. The resulting pictures probably won’t win any awards, but the act of drawing will be fun. We’ll also see how to add overlays to maps in iOS and how to share the resulting pictures with friends and family.

Apps use overlays on maps to add or emphasize valuable information. After you have worked through this chapter, you’ll be able to use map overlays in your own apps.

We’ll define the user interface of this app in code files. The result will look like the image.
