Transport Layer Security

TLS is the successor to SSL. The use of the Secure Sockets Layer is not recommended according to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Since SSL 3.0 is known for its vulnerabilities, Transport Layer Security 1.0 was created back in 1999. Currently, there is TLS 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3. The TLS protocols focus on providing confidentiality and integrity by applying both encryption and hashing techniques to the data being sent across the communication channel.
