Why would you need a VPN?

A VPN is an alternative to having a dedicated Wide Area Network (WAN) connection due to the high cost payable to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for creating the WAN connectivity for your sites or offices. Some organizations or small companies may not have the budget for a dedicated WAN infrastructure but still need to extend their corporate network beyond borders to another remote site or office, a VPN can be the solution. To establish a VPN, each branch location needs an internet connection and either a firewall or router with the capabilities of creating an IPSec VPN. This would allow the company to save on cost, all they would need is an internet connection at each branch location.
