An Application security group is a natural extension of an NSG to an application architecture. The basis for this is the grouping of virtual computers (VMs). The network security guidelines are then assigned to these groups.

The Application security groups feature has been new since the Microsoft Ignite 2017 Conference (September 2017) and currently has preview status.
