The Azure portal provides service metrics for most Azure services (such as storage, SQL database, service bus, and so on). These metrics are often much more detailed than those provided through APM tools.
Dependent services can also provide their own application-level metrics. Examples for this include information on connection load, authentication exceptions for security services, process throttling during busy periods, and imminent restrictions due to approaching storage contingents. These metrics are useful for determining if the service is nearing capacity saturation and if it is currently available.
