Integration Services are software that runs on guest virtual machines and provides enhancements, better integration, and additional features. There are six Integration Services available currently:

• Operating system shutdown: This enables the user to shut down the client operating system without logging on to it, either through Hyper-V Manager or the command line
• Time synchronization: This synchronizes the clock on the VM with the clock on the Hyper-V host
• Data Exchange: This enables the guest VM to communicate with the Hyper-V host via VMBus
• Heartbeat: The Hyper-V host tracks the signal that the VM generates periodically to indicate its health state
• Backup (volume shadow copy): This enables the user to back up a VM
• Guest services: This enables data transfers
