Validators

Validators are similar to conditions, but they validate certain criteria before allowing the transition to complete. While conditions will hide a workflow transition from the user if its criteria are not met, validators will allow the user to see the transition but not allow the transition to execute if its criteria are not met.

The most common use case for validators is to validate the user input during a transition. For example, you can validate if the user has entered data for all fields presented on the workflow screen. The following table shows a list of validators that come shipped with Jira; additional validators can be added via third-party add-ons:

Validator

Description

Permission Validator

This validates that the user has the selected permission. This is useful when checking whether the person who has executed the transition has the required permissions.

User Permission Validator

This validates that the user has the selected permission where the OSWorkflow variable holding the username is configurable. This is obsolete.
