What you need for this book

The following software needs to be installed on your PC:

  • SharePoint 2010 deployed in an environment, or accessible via your browser, along with at least Designer access to a SharePoint site.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), ideally 2010 as there is better integration and interface consistency with the SharePoint 2010 product, although Office 2010/2007 does have integration with SharePoint 2010.
  • Internet Explorer 8 for full browsing compatibility; although Internet Explorer 7 is supported by Microsoft, there are some limitations.
  • You do need some time to step back from your immediate activities and learn and understand what the SharePoint technology can do and where it is appropriate to your job and role within an organization. We are not talking about days, rather a few hours to identify SharePoint 2010's functionality and where it is appropriate to your job role, department, or organization.

By using the most up-to-date software, instructions in this book will be easier to follow as they reference the Office 2010 product.
