Summary

From this chapter, we can see that SharePoint is a self-service model for creating sites and applying security with usernames and groups, navigation with ribbons, and UI themes with PowerPoint to the sites, all without the need for IT administrators or graphic designers. You were introduced to site collections, site hierarchy with sub Sites, lists and libraries where content is stored, and security site inheritance.

This is a major shift in corporate intranet deployments because the responsibility for the content to be updated, and a site to be architected correctly with the correct corporate brand, now lies with the end user.

The next two chapters could be considered the most important in the book as we will go into a more in-depth examination of the functionality of lists and libraries, which is where user content actually resides.
