Connecting a camera outside of your local network

At this point, you should consider connecting your Raspberry Pi Zero W board with your router and gaining access from anywhere in the world. To do this, you have to port forward the incoming connections to your Raspberry Pi Zero W board, as we have already seen in previous chapters when talking about networking. Basically, what you have to do is find your Raspberry Pi Zero W IP address and after logging in on your router interface, create a port forward rule from all or specific incoming connections to that IP address and port 80. Next, to secure your local security camera system, you may consider to set up a username and password.

This way, you make it harder for unwanted users to access your local security system. After this, you can open up a browser and go to the <X.X.X.X>:80 URL, where X.X.X.X is your home/router IP address from your ISP. You can find this IP address by simply visiting Google and searching What is my IP address?. Consider changing port 80 to some other port that only you should know. This makes it harder for anyone else to access your system. They would actually need to scan your network for open ports and find which one you use. Remember that we can create as many security layers as we can, and there is no way that you can be 100% secure from anyone.
