Additional arguments for nm are available to us on an as-needed basis. For example, if we read the man page in step 2, we can see it's possible for us to further alter the output of nm to display symbol values in decimal, octal, or hexadecimal by issuing the -t [d/o/x] argument. Additionally, we can specify the format we expect from our binary if it differs from the system default by using the --target=[bfdname] argument, where bfdname represents any number of supported targets such as elf64-x86-64elf32-i386, and so on. We didn't have to issue this argument because our system is configured to use ELF as the default format. Refer to the man page for additional information on this tool and additional arguments that we didn't cover.
