Microsoft open source strategy

Satya Nadella could not have found a better way to tell the IT world there is a new sheriff in town than when he said these three words: Microsoft loves Linux.

It's a complete contradiction of what Ballmer said in June 2001: Linux is a cancer that attaches itself in an intellectual property sense to everything it touches.

In this process, Microsoft is partnering with open source companies such as Canonical Ltd. to enable Windows Server to run as a guest OS on Ubuntu and OpenStack.

Hot core development platform, .NET Framework, is being migrated into open source as .NET Core with cross platform (Windows, Linux, Mac, and others).
