LXC (short form of Linux Containers) was first released in 2008 as an operating-system-level virtualization to run multiple isolated Linux systems (called as containers) on a host using a single Linux kernel. It basically combines the Cgroups functionality and adds support for the namespaces to provide an isolation boundary for given containerized applications.
