At a higher level, ESB can be said to have these six main segments:

• Storage resources (in memory, persistent, transfer)
• Gateway services (protocols, security)
• Message broker (as explained previously)
• Solution designer (IDE)
• Service adapters (data and services connectors to various resources including third parties)
• Management Interface (administration, installation of components, management, and monitoring)
