Staying safe from social engineering attacks

Although social engineering attacks can seem terrifying, as can be seen from the above-mentioned cases, the effects of these attacks can be significantly mitigated if appropriate measures are taken and if they are followed by all the people within the organization/institution. Although the risk may always be there, it is unlikely ever to happen.

Refer to point 21 under the References section, where different measures that need to be taken by individuals and organizations/institutions are proposed. According to Patricia Titus, for better visibility, social engineering attacks against people, processes, and technology should be separately addressed. This approach gives a significantly better understanding and facilitates the definition of the different necessary measures against these attacks. Moreover, other prominent experts in the area made additional contributions proposing many effective countermeasures that can significantly improve the level of protection from the challenges we are facing in the areas of social engineering and cybersecurity in general. Combining all the proposed security measures in can provide maximum protection based on multilayered security approach, which is a significantly more effective method against social engineering attacks compared to a single security approach.
