Exploring SharePoint Online

SharePoint Online (SPO), another essential part of Office 365, is a web-based collaboration and communication platform. Many organizations use SPO as an intranet.

Content in SPO is organized into sites. There are a number of different templates available for creating sites that meet your organization's needs, such as team-based collaboration, wikis, and sophisticated search experiences. Organizations can create sites for groups of people that collaborate together often.

SPO is also the foundation for other Microsoft 365 cloud services, such as Microsoft Teams and OneDrive for Business (ODFB). ODFB is a personal storage space for files.

In the next section, we'll discuss three SPO use cases:

  • Team site collaboration
  • Communication sites
  • ODFB

As previously mentioned, SPO sites are created using templates. The two most popular site templates in modern SPO are team sites and communication sites.
