This appendix provides information on the contents and system requirements of the CD-ROM that accompanies this book.
The CD is a cross-platform CD and can be read by both Macintosh and Windows computers. Macintosh users need System 10.2 or above. Windows users need Windows XP Service Pack 2 or above or Windows Vista.
To install the items from the CD to your hard drive, follow these steps.
Insert the CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive.
The license agreement appears.
Note to Windows users: The interface won't launch if you have autorun disabled. In that case, choose Start
Note for Mac Users: When the CD icon appears on your desktop, double-click the icon to open the CD and double-click the Start icon.
Read through the license agreement and then click the Accept button if you want to use the CD.
The CD interface appears. The interface allows you to browse the contents and install the programs with just a click of a button (or two).
The CD contains the following:
Double-click the Adobe Reader installer and install the Reader software from the book's CD. Adobe Reader is coded separately for PowerPC Macs and Intel Macs, so be sure to choose the installer appropriate for your computer.
Before you install Adobe Reader 9 on your computer, check out Adobe's Web site at www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html
to see if there's a newer version of the Reader software than Adobe Reader 9.0, as you may have purchased this book after Adobe has updated the Reader software. If you find a version later than 9.0 on Adobe's Web site, download that version.
The entire text of the PDF Forms Using Acrobat and LiveCycle Designer Bible is available on the CD as a PDF document. Any Acrobat viewer 7.0 or above can open the PDF file and view the contents.
To search the embedded index, open the Search panel by pressing Ctrl/
The Chapters folder contains forms and sample files to help you through most of the steps in the text of the book. All chapters that support companion files with work-through steps are identified by chapter number. Open a chapter and the text in the book covers steps to follow to create the form(s) respective to the chapter number where the files are found.
You'll also find a folder titled SampleForm. This folder contains a sample dynamic form contributed by Carlo M. Arrelano of General Casualty in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. We liked this form so much Carlo granted permission to include the form on the CD-ROM. Look over this form to see a fine example for using subforms in LiveCycle Designer.
If you have difficulty installing or using any of the materials on the companion CD, try the following solutions:
Turn off any anti-virus software that you may have running. Installers sometimes mimic virus activity and can make your computer incorrectly believe that it is being infected by a virus. (Be sure to turn the anti-virus software back on later.)
Close all running programs. The more programs you're running, the less memory is available to other programs. Installers also typically update files and programs; if you keep other programs running, installation may not work properly.
Refer to the ReadMe: Please refer to the ReadMe file located at the root of the CD-ROM for the latest product information at the time of publication.
