You can generally use an alias wherever you would be allowed to input whatever type the alias is. For example, if an alias refers to an IP address and the field you are entering requires a hostname or IP address, you should be able to use the alias. You will be able to tell if this is the case, because if you start typing the alias and aliases are allowed in the field, the auto-complete functionality of pfSense should cause all the valid aliases to appear.
