Shoot a modern glamour image

Glamour photography, like other forms of portrait photography, shows trends, styles and fashions that change to reflect current fads and tastes. As much as with the clothes and hairstyles, the poses, look and attitude of the models are constantly changing. Since the massive growth of men’s lifestyle magazines, glamour photography has become far more mainstream than it used to be. Shooting glamour no longer requires partly undressed or naked subjects – sexy and provocative poses are equally suitable. Find a willing subject and give it a try – there’s no reason why it should not be fun for everyone involved.

CHARLOTTE

Just to prove how the humble home can be used as a location for shooting great pictures, this shot was taken with the model perched on the sill of a kitchen window. The venetian blind slats were left slightly open to allow some diffused light through to create a very graphic backdrop, while a studio flash behind the camera provided very soft fill to reveal detail on the subject’s body. Compositionally, this image works well through the use of triangles, which are a powerful visual aid and are created here by the positions of the arms and legs.

Canon EOS-1DS, 28–70mm f/2.8 lens at 50mm, 1/180 sec at f/8, ISO 200.
