Appeal to Your Audience

Should you have a separate résumé for every job you apply for? No. Having a different résumé for every job you apply for is going to make you crazy. That being said, you may want to have two different résumés if you have two separate careers. Take me, for example. I'm both a career counselor and a professor, so two different résumés would be appropriate. It's all about your audience. In my case, I'm appealing to two different ones: school administrators in the first case and department chairs in the second.

To facilitate this, consider creating your résumé in Microsoft Word or a similar word-processing program. That way, it will be easy to move the various modules around to suit the needs of the particular job for which you're applying.
